Galvanic corrosion between stainless steel and duplex stainless steel

Jun 15, 2022 Leave a message

Bimetallic corrosion, also known as galvanic corrosion, is an electrochemical process in which two different metals are immersed in a conductive solution and the two metals are electrically connected.

In this process, one metal is protected and the other corrodes. It is possible to prevent galvanic corrosion by practicing several rules.

Materials with similar corrosion potentials must be selected, electrical connections must be broken by insulation, and finally, coatings applied to both materials.

The right coating can prevent the metal from peeling off from the cathode or anode, thereby improving its corrosion resistance and effectively protecting both metals.
