Difference between Hastelloy and Monel alloy

Monel is stronger than steel and is a ductile, corrosion-resistant material. In addition to excellent resistance to alkaline media, the alloy also has good resistance to highly corrosive acids, such as hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid.

Monel copper-nickel alloys are very effective in Marine engineering applications due to their high copper content. The copper content also gives some resistance, which is why the Monel component works well in saline solutions.

On the other hand, Hastelloy alloy has good corrosion resistance to acidic solution. These corrosive acids include solutions of sulfuric, nitric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, and chromic acids. In particular, the resistance of these alloys to sulfuric acid is an important contribution to the process-based industry, as few alloys exhibit good resistance to this acid.

Another important property of this alloy is its excellent resistance to stress-related corrosion cracking. Because of its high nickel content, the material can be used at high temperatures. The addition of chromium to Hastelloy alloys improves their oxidation corrosion resistance and makes them resistant to uniform and localized corrosion.
