Pitting
Pitting corrosion is a very dangerous local corrosion. It usually occurs in aqueous solutions containing chlorine, bromine, iodine, etc., which produce small holes and then rapidly corrode. In serious cases, it will penetrate the steel plate. Generally, the corrosion degree cannot be evaluated by the weight reduction.
There are two main measures to improve the pitting corrosion resistance: one is to improve the local pitting corrosion resistance and reduce the inclusions in the steel, especially the sulfur content; The second is the pitting corrosion resistance of the steel matrix. The alloy elements that affect the corrosion resistance of the matrix are mainly chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen.
