Jul 09, 2022 Leave a message

We should all be familiar with stainless steel. In our life, there are too many things made of stainless steel. When purchasing household stainless steel products, we can often see a series of numbers in front of the word "stainless steel". The most common numbers are 304 and 316. What do these numbers mean? Which should we choose?

Stainless steel is not just about not rusting

We all know that the main component of steel is iron. The chemical properties of iron are relatively active, and it is easy to chemically react with the surrounding things. The most common of these reactions is oxidation, where iron reacts with oxygen in the air, commonly known as rusting.

Adding some impurities (mainly chromium) to the steel forms stainless steel. But the ability of stainless steel is not only rust resistance, which can be seen from its full name: stainless acid-resistant steel. Stainless steel is not only resistant to oxidation, but also acid corrosion.
