How to detect the quality of 304 Stainless Steel sheet
The quality of 304 Stainless Steel sheet can be tested from the following aspects:
1. Appearance inspection
Surface quality: Observe whether the surface of the stainless steel sheet is smooth and flat, and whether there are obvious scratches, cracks, sand holes, bubbles and other defects. The surface of high-quality 304 Stainless Steel sheet should be smooth, free of impurities and defects, which may affect the corrosion resistance and aesthetics of the stainless steel sheet.
Color uniformity: Check whether the color of the board is uniform and consistent. If there is a color difference, it may be caused by uneven heat treatment or surface treatment during production, which may also indicate quality problems.
2. Dimensional accuracy measurement
Thickness measurement: Use measuring tools such as micrometers or calipers to measure the thickness of the sheet at different locations to see if it meets the product specification requirements. The thickness tolerance of 304 Stainless Steel sheet usually has a certain standard, and uneven thickness may affect its performance and strength.
Length and Width Measurement: Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the length and width of the sheet to ensure that the dimensions are accurate and the deviation is within the allowable range.
3. Chemical composition analysis
Spectral analysis: Use a spectrometer to test the chemical composition of stainless steel sheets to determine the content of major alloying elements such as chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and molybdenum (Mo). The standard chemical composition of 304 Stainless Steel sheet is generally 18% - 20% chromium and 8% - 10.5% nickel. Only when the alloying element content meets the standard can it be guaranteed to have good corrosion resistance and other properties.
4. Mechanical properties test
Tensile test: The stainless steel sheet is subjected to a tensile test by a tensile testing machine to measure its yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and other mechanical properties. These indicators reflect the performance of the stainless steel sheet when subjected to stress. High-quality 304 Stainless Steel sheet should have mechanical properties that meet the standard requirements to meet the requirements of different application scenarios.
Hardness test: Use a hardness tester to test the hardness of stainless steel plates. Common hardness indicators include Brinell hardness, Rockwell hardness, etc. The hardness value can reflect the strength and wear resistance of stainless steel plates to a certain extent, but different hardness test methods are suitable for different materials and application scenarios. The appropriate test method needs to be selected according to the actual situation.
5. Corrosion resistance test
Intergranular corrosion test: Specific test methods, such as oxalic acid etching test, sulfuric acid-copper sulfate test, etc., are used to detect the intergranular corrosion sensitivity of stainless steel sheets. 304 Stainless Steel sheet may suffer from intergranular corrosion in certain specific use environments, such as in a medium containing chloride ions. The intergranular corrosion test can be used to evaluate its ability to resist intergranular corrosion.
Salt spray test: Place the stainless steel plate in a salt spray test chamber to simulate the salt spray corrosion conditions in the ocean or harsh environment, and observe its corrosion over a certain period of time to evaluate its salt spray corrosion resistance.
