Galvanic corrosion between stainless steel and duplex stainless steel

Jun 09, 2022 Leave a message

Bimetallic corrosion, also known as galvanic corrosion, is an electrochemical process.

When two different metals are immersed in a conductive solution, the two metals are electrically connected. In this process, one metal is protected and the other corrodes. It is possible to prevent galvanic corrosion by practicing several rules, but materials must be similar corrosion potentials and be selected to break electrical connections through insulation.

Finally, a coating is applied to both materials. The right coating can prevent the metal from peeling off from the cathode or anode, thereby improving its corrosion resistance and effectively protecting both metals.
