Carbon steel wire is widely used in spring manufacturing, musical instrument strings and other fields due to its excellent elasticity. 1. Ingredient design

Carbon content is a key factor affecting the elasticity of Carbon steel wire. Carbon steel wire can obtain good elasticity when the carbon content is in the range of 0.6%-0.9%. If the carbon content is too high, the hardness will be increased but the toughness and elasticity will be reduced; if the carbon content is too low, the elasticity will be difficult to meet the requirements. Alloy elements such as manganese and silicon can also be added. Manganese can improve strength and toughness, and silicon can significantly increase the elastic limit. The combination of the two can better regulate elasticity.​

2. Processing technology

Cold working processes such as cold drawing and cold drawing will cause work hardening of Carbon steel wire, thereby improving its elasticity. During the cold working process, the elasticity can be regulated by controlling the working rate. Generally speaking, the processing rate is between 20%-60%, and the elasticity of Carbon steel wire increases with the processing rate. However, if the processing rate is too high, the wire will become brittle and its elasticity will decrease. The control of drawing passes and speed is also very important. Appropriate drawing passes and speed can make the internal structure of the wire deform evenly and stabilize the elastic properties.​

3. Heat treatment

The quenching and tempering process is crucial to the elasticity control of Carbon steel wire. Quenching can change the structure of Carbon steel wire and improve hardness and strength. Tempering can eliminate quenching stress and adjust the balance between hardness, toughness and elasticity. When the tempering temperature is between 300℃-500℃, the elasticity of Carbon steel wire will increase with the increase of tempering temperature; when the tempering temperature is too high, the hardness and elasticity will decrease. The tempering time also needs to be precisely controlled. If it is too short, the stress will not be fully eliminated, and if it is too long, the structure will be coarse and the elasticity will be affected. ​

4. Quality Inspection

During the production process, the elastic modulus, residual stress and other indicators of Carbon steel wire are monitored in real time by using professional equipment, which can detect elastic abnormalities and make adjustments in time. ​
